A rare 17th-century Italian chair from the Lombardy region, carved from solid walnut with the bold, sculptural presence characteristic of northern Italian vernacular furniture of the period. The pierced back splat, with its rhythmic curves and softened heart-like cutout, is both graphic and architectural, while the thick, plank seat shows generations of use through its worn surface, old tool marks, and deep, time-earned patina. Set on sturdy splayed legs, the form feels purposeful and grounded—more sculptural than decorative—reflecting its origins as a functional household piece rather than a courtly object. We sourced this chair in Italy, and it remains wonderfully untouched, with all the irregularities, surface wear, and quiet strength you’d hope to find in a true early example. Perfect as an accent chair, sculptural stand-alone piece, or layered into a collected interior where age and texture matter.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 14.5 inches
  • Depth: 20.5 inches overall, 15 inches seat
  • Height: 32.5 inches overall, 17.5 inches seat
