Carved from solid walnut with a scalloped back pierced by a small heart, this 18th century French chair stands on four splayed legs with bobbin-turned arm supports carrying flat, shaped armrests. The seat has been polished smooth by long use, the wood gone deep brown with old worm evidence long settled. Sculptural from every angle — as good standing against a wall as pulled up to a writing table.
