A late 17th-century English oak cupboard dated 1685, carved with the initials “C R” for Charles Regina, marking the reign of King Charles II and placing the piece at the close of the Restoration period. This dating ties it directly to a pivotal moment in English history, when the monarchy had been reestablished after years of political upheaval, making surviving, clearly dated examples like this especially significant. The facade is defined by strong geometric paneling, with deeply carved floral rosettes and scrolling details set within clean, linear framing. The oak has developed a rich, darkened tone that highlights the depth and contrast of the carving, with subtle variation across the surface. Well-proportioned and grounded in form, it functions as both a practical storage piece and a document of its time.
