An open plate rack sits over this pine stepback, three shelves high against a boarded back, with a small cornice along the top. The base has two dovetailed drawers with brass swan-neck handles and keyhole escutcheons, and below them two panelled doors on small dark knobs. Behind the doors a centre upright divides the cupboard, with a shelf on each side. The pine is light and even, with knots scattered through the top and the boards of the rack. Made for plates and crocks in a kitchen, or for books and baskets anywhere with the height for it.
