A sturdy antique French champagne basket with a softly tapered form and beautifully irregular handwoven construction, its thick twisted rim and wrapped handles giving it a grounded, utilitarian feel. The body shows a mix of tighter and more open weave, with a subtle contrast in tone from sun-faded straw to deeper, time-darkened brown. Hand-painted initials—“CR” near the rim and larger lettering below—add a graphic element and hint at its original use, now softened and slightly worn into the surface. Raised on small feet with visible old repairs and reinforcing ties, it carries a sense of practical use while remaining striking as a sculptural storage piece.
