A beautifully preserved set of four 19th-century Irish linen napkins, each hand-embroidered with a delicate appliqué motif executed in fine satin stitch. The craftsmanship is exceptional—raised floral scrolls rendered with an assured hand that speaks to Ireland’s long tradition of domestic embroidery in the late Victorian era. The linen itself is of exquisite quality: crisp yet soft, with the faint slub and sheen characteristic of hand-loomed Irish flax.
Likely made as part of a trousseau or for a formal household, these napkins embody both refinement and restraint—elegant in their simplicity, with subtle relief embroidery that catches the light. A rare surviving quartet, ideal for display or for a special table setting that honors the grace of handwork from another century. In amazing condition for their age, with only a couple of pin-size faded marks on two of the napkins.
