These small stoneware preserve pots come from Bailey’s Pottery of Sulham in Berkshire, a village pottery active in the late 19th and early 20th century and known for its sturdy, utilitarian wares. Thrown in a warm buff clay and finished with a simple bead-and-dot band around the shoulder, each pot carries a pair of stamped initials—likely the marks of individual potters or batch identifiers used within the workshop. The distinctive notched rims are original to their design, made to hold a small spoon while still allowing the pot to remain lidded, a detail typical of early preserve and condiment jars. Light wear around the rims and bases reflects their decades of daily use, adding to their quiet charm. Styled together on a shelf, holding a few stems, or mixed into a larger stoneware grouping, they bring that understated, old-world texture that fits seamlessly into rustic and collected interiors.
