Dry, pale oak runs through the whole table, from the three-board top with its moulded edge down to the bun feet. The top shows wide cathedral grain, open joints between the boards and a scatter of old nail heads and filled holes. One long drawer with a small turned knob runs the full width, and its softwood bottom has old worm holes and a split you can see daylight through. Baluster-turned legs are tied by a wavy X-stretcher, pegged where it crosses. It works as a writing table, a hall table or beside a bed.
