Black paint covers every surface, crackled and rubbed back in places to a pale ground and to bare wood, and ochre lines pick out the reeded canted sides. The upper section rises in three stepped shelves between scalloped sides, one with a pierced gallery and one with a notched rail. Below, a single fielded-panel door carries a gold floral swag and a painted date across its top rail, over a fixed panel and one small drawer, on carved scroll feet. Inside it is painted a warm terracotta, with a little drawer hung beneath the shelf.
